* Assuming an agency has an existing, configured AASHTOWare Safety instance and all required data
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) collaborated with AASHTOWare Safety to improve data-sharing capabilities with other government agencies. By utilizing detailed user-level access controls, MDT has been able to share this vital crash data with agencies and stakeholders across the state – resulting in greater access to crash data and facilitating more informed safety decisions from state and local partners. By restricting the crash data to pre-defined geographic areas, such as cities, counties, MPOs, and tribal boundaries, MDT can easily control the crash data that is visible in AASHTOWare Safety to users across the state.
These user-level access controls can be used to control the data accessed by end users to ensure they only see the data they need. Any crash data element can be used to control this access, such as:
By defining the crash data that each user can view, agencies are able to grant access to more users than ever before. Users can be restricted to view only the crashes within their jurisdiction.

Additionally, users can be granted access to view only certain types of crashes based on their area of focus.
